What You Didn’t Know About Your Hair

         Hair 101

The hair is an important part of your body that many people know very little about or none at all. There are even some that don’t consider it an integral part of the body.

Protein is the major constituent of hair, Keratin being the most important.

This is formed by the amino acids molecules that are linked and soured from the foods we eat.

Hair Growth

Anagen

This is the active phase of the hair. The cells in the root of the hair are dividing rapidly creating new hair. When formed it pushes the club hair up the follicle and eventually out. It’s no longer in the anagen phase. During this phase the hair grows about 1 cm every 28 days.

Catagen

The transitional phase. Which lasts for about 2 to 3 weeks. Yet at any given time, 3% of all hairs are in this phase. Growth stops and the outer root sheath shrinks and attaches to the root of the hair. Welcome to the club, because what forms here is known as a “club” hair.

Telogen

How about a little break? Since lastly, here the hair is in a resting phase and usually accounts for 6% to 8% of all hairs. This phase lasts for about 100 days for hairs on the scalp and longer for everywhere else. During this phase, the hair follicle is at rest and the club hair is formed. Pulling out a hair in this phase will reveal a solid, hard, dry, white material at the root. About 25 to 100 telogen hairs are shed normally each day. I guess we better cover the sofa in plastic wrapping now.

Exogen

Is when the hair shreds. Then its starts all over. The shedding rate depends with each individual. Hormones and your health have a lot to do with it. It is normal to shed hair occasionally.

The foods we eat will directly affect our hair.

Hair growth occurs when nutrients are converted to hair cell. Keratinization is the process that happens as hair is pushed from the follicle.

Hair is interwoven protein fiber that helps to complete us.

During our life our hair is a moment of a cycle. Hair growth cycles are as follows; Anagen, Catagen, Telogen. Hair on the scalp grows about .3 to .4 mm/day or about 6 inches per year.

It is both the cortex and the medulla that holds the hair’s pigment, giving it its color known as Eumelanin & Phaneomelanin.

Can you grow your Hair Faster?

There’s no magic pill or DIY hack that’ll give you the dreamy Rapunzel hair overnight. Due to the way our DNA Human make up. Our hair only grows less than an inch month and that is if you already have healthy hair. However, there are a few things you can do if your hair isn’t growing as quickly as our DNA meant it to be. Due to bad genetics, illness or medication.

Although we cannot make our hair grow faster there are plenty of ways to keep it healthy and allow the hair to reach it full potential for healthy growing hair.
