5 Mistakes You’re Making as a Vegan

Being vegan is more than just a trend or different way of a life, it is a lifestyle that leads to rejuvenation and helps to elevate the mindset. A great example is going to the gym. Somedays you may not feel like going for what ever reason you can come up with. However, you know deep down to the core of your abs covered by layers of fat that it is in your best interest to spend 1 – 2 hours of your daily life working out. That requires a change of mindset and changes in lifestyle. 

1. Listening to Peoples Opinion

There’s a saying that I like to keep in mind for all of my whimsical ventures:

“It takes courage to let go of the familiar and embrace the new”

Listening to the opinions of people who are going a different direction than you are can lead you away from the things you believe to be true and virtuous in your life. Next thing you know you’re on that persons path… following them…maybe to fit in to their mold..? 

Most of were not born vegan and to be vegan is not always easy. It took strength to go against the wind. Strength comes from deep within us. We need a strong motive to change and embrace something we have not done before.

If doubts come in to the picture, do your research, investigate and discern.

2. Buying $18 Salads

Unless you’re stuck at the airport and starving, you might be willing to buy a $18 salad or maybe give in to a hamburger. 

However, the life of a vegan usually is not dependent on expensive foods and salads. 

More than ever before there is a plethora of recipes that fulfills the needs of our bodies and to feel wonderful!

Adding a variety of foods to your plate at each meal expands your vitamin and mineral intake. My favorite meal to have for lunch and dinner are different types of Buddah Bowls. However, there are also hamburgers, sandwhiches, hot wings, tacos that you include. All recipes that include meat can be substituted. We are not a loss. 

Save your money and create your own meals.

Fact: Because the vegetables that earth produces are dense the more you can eat to satisfaction. 

3. Thinking of Protien ONLY

But where do you get your protein!? Oh how often we hear this dilemma.

Protein Consist of smaller molecules called amino acids, which link together like beads on a string. These linked amino acids form long protein chains, which then fold into complex shapes.

Your body produces some of these amino acids, but you must obtain others known as essential amino acids via your diet.

Protein is not only about quantity but also quality.

There is a large variety of foods where we can get our protein such as: Edamame, Chia seeds, Seeds and nuts, Beans and rice, Quinoa, Seitan, Temph and there veggies. 

Protein, although important, is not the only nutrient necessary for the function of the body. To stay healthy a variety is essential to intake all different vitamins, minerals, carbs, fat and protein.

Each gram of protein contains four calories. Simply divide the two calorie range numbers by four. Someone who eats 2,000 calories per day should consume 200 to 700 calories from protein, or 50 to 175 grams of protein.

The average adult needs a minimum of 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.2 One kilogram equals 2.2 pounds, so a person who weighs 165 pounds, or 75 kg, would need about 60 grams of protein per day.

However, your protein needs may increase if you are very active

4. Not Taking Supplements

In a perfect world we wouldn’t need supplements and in this world not all supplements are made equally.

According to Dr.Greger 

” Americans spend billions on such supplements. “A better investment in health would be eating more fruits and vegetables.” Imagine if we instead spent those billions on healthy food?

 Aren’t vitamins and minerals good for us? Well, one explanation for this result could be that [our bodies] are so complex that the effects of supplementing [a few] components is generally ineffective or actually does harm.” Maybe, we should get our nutrients in the way nature intended.

Of course, eating the main source of the vitamins and minerals is always better and the best quality.

5. Not Trusting The Process

It is easy to give up when you don’t see instant results. In the day in age we want instant gratification. We want abs after a 20 min work out. We all know we can’t get abs that fast. Nor can you go from having black hair to platinum hair in 4 hours. 

Being Vegan the right way, in time you will notice the difference. Diseases caused by inflammation will lessen. Your acne will disappear. That leaky gut will go away.
