Why You Should Start Juicing and 10 Recipes To Get You Started
Can juicing cure an illness? I feel it in my soul! So it’s certainly curing something maybe before it even starts. To be utterly transparent and honest I really do feel it in my soul as if my body was asking for it. Definitely thirst-quenching! If you haven’t started already then not to mention the obvious but you’re definitely missing out.
Buying juices every day can also get pretty pricey. Making it a home can save you money!
Take it from my girl Rawkristina ( not really my girl, I’m sure she has no idea I exist) she looks amazing on her IG and Youtube Channel and she’s all about the Juice Life! You can just tell that if you start juicing it’ll work wonders for you too. That’s not to exclude that eating the fruit and veggies just the way they are isn’t any better. They both have their benefits and both can be done.
By juicing I don’t mean… I don’t eat food. For me juicing has made me feel great! I don’t overeat if I have it before a meal. It’s just as energizing as if I had coffee but with a green juice I feel more alive then if I had coffee it would be like someone turned on the button and set a timer for 5 hours.
My skin glows and if I have juice before dinner I wake up refreshed. If you ask my husband he’ll tell you the same thing. He too feels great after having one. In fact, he requests one every day!
When to Juice
We are all different so ‘when’ is a good time might differ. However, I can say for certain that it’s probably not a good idea to have a juice 2 to 3 hours before going to bed or else you’ll be getting up to use the bathroom often.
I have juice at least 30 min before a meal. Usually, it’s before breakfast and if I miss that window of opportunity then it’ll be before lunch or dinner. However, it’s usually juice a day. I generally eat very healthily with lots of fruits and veggies because I’m Vegan. However, I started juicing as a way to get more nutrients into my day. Sometimes I don’t want a salad, as much as I do love a good salad!
If you’re trying to cut down on refined sugar, a sweet juice in the afternoon is a nice little pick-me-up.
Juicing With a Juicer 101
You’ll notice that some fruits and vegetables have a higher water content than others such as: (these are always great to have as a staple in the kitchen)
So it’s important to juice a mix of high and low yielding fruits and veggies.
If you haven’t juiced before the physical effects of juicing might catch you off guard. You might run to the bathroom a few minutes after you drink your first juice.
That’s a good thing! It only means that it’s helping clear out your digestive tract and keep things moving along,
Disclaimer: Don’t do a juice fast without talking to your doctor first.
Once your body gets used to fresh juice, you will crave it!
All fruits and veggies have vitamins, antioxidants, and phytonutrients, but those low-juice-yielding leafy greens are especially packed full of nutrition.
Unfortunately, it takes a high volume of greens to yield just a few tablespoons of juice so another option is to juice and then blend in greens.
That’s also why you’ll see small shots of wheatgrass juice at shops as opposed to an 8-ounce cup.
But those juices are highly concentrated, so it’s good to mix them with the juicier veggies and fruit.
Ginger is great and produces a moderate amount of juice, but it can get spicy quickly so you don’t need that much. It’s great as a wake-up call!
What not to Juice: berries, mangos, bananas, and other softer fruits because they could clog your juicer.
